Corina Oproae
She is a Spanish Romanian poet, novelist and translator. She writes in Spanish and Catalan. Her books of poems are A Thousand and One Deaths (2016), Intermittencies (2018), The Hand that Trembles (2020), Where to Love From (2021) and How to Bury the Father in a Poem (2025). Her first novel, The Lemon House, was awarded the prestigious Tusquets Publishers Prize for Novel in 2024 in Spain. She is the author and translator of the anthology 20^th-Century Poetry in Romania (2022).

Catalonia is renowned for its rich and diverse culture with remarkable achievements in painting, music and architecture. Yet its equally distinguished Catalan literature has often been shadowed by its dominant Spanish counterpart. In this talk, Corina will discuss her own work, the poetic tradition of Catalonia, and her relationship with the poetic scene of her motherland Romania. Moderated by Tēnn Sūn-tshong, a poet writing in Tâi-gí (one of Taiwan’s native languages), this conversation also features Professor Luisa Shu-Ying Chang – a leading figure in translating, researching, and introducing Spanish literature to Taiwanese readers – as the interlocutor.

Born in Romania, Corina has dedicated herself to bridging Romanian and Catalan poetry with the Spanish language. She will share the path through which the experiences of learning different languages and culture, as well as her work in writing and translation, have accumulated. The poet Cao Shu-Ying, with equally diverse cultural experiences in Beijing, Northeastern China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, will join the conversation as moderator and the Hakka poet (one of Taiwan’s native languages) Chang Fang-Ci as interlocutor to explore cultural multiplicity together.
